Free Travel Pass (FTP) holders,
If you’re a Free Travel Pass (FTP) holder, you can use your pass to travel on Inishbofin Ferries.
This guide will walk you through how to reserve your ticket using your Free Travel Pass,
How to Book a Free Travel Pass Ticket Online
Step 1: Select “FREE TRAVEL PASS HOLDER “When booking your ticket online, do not select the Adult,
Instead, go directly to the Free Travel Pass section and select the appropriate number of passengers from the dropdown menu:
Select 1 if one person is travelling.
Select 2 if two people are travelling on the same or separate passes
Tip: We strongly recommend reserving your space in advance—especially during busier summer months,
please note although we have ample seating, we do not reserve actual seats, our vessels offer both standing and sitting options and are not pre allocated before boarding
Step 2: Show Your Pass When Boarding
Free Travel Pass holders must carry their pass and present it to crew when boarding along with their online ticket (no need to print can be shown from phone also)
If you do not have your pass with you, you will be charged the applicable fare.

Travelling with Someone on an FTP
A person must be 16 years or older to accompany a Free Travel Pass holder (if the pass allows a companion).
Free Travel Pass guidelines
- If you are over 66 years of age and you permanently live in the State, the Free Travel Scheme allows you to travel for free on certain transport services.
- If you qualify for a Free Travel Pass and you are married you may get a Free Travel Pass that allows your spouse to join you for free when you are travelling with them.
- You may be eligible to get a Free Travel Companion Pass if you are medically assessed as unfit to travel alone – this type of pass allows any one person, aged 16 or over, to accompany you for free, when you are travelling with them.
- Only the named person can use the Free Travel Pass, you cannot let another person use it.
- To travel for free you must always produce your Free Travel Pass for inspection to the ferry operator.
- You and your accompanying spouse / companion may also need to produce evidence of identity at the gangway, by producing a sample of your signature(s) and/ or photographic identification.
- A Free Travel Pass may be taken and returned to the Department of Social Protection if there are good reasons for suspecting that it is being misused.
